Video is no longer an Option:

As social media grows and more people start using it to promote their products, services, or content there is one specific type of media that keeps rising and is becoming more important as time passes. Although video marketing has been important for a while it was still considered an option for most businesses but now it's more like a necessity or a given. Maybe you’re still wondering if you should join or that it’s not that important, that’s where I come in, to show you why you should get on board on video marketing this year.

With the speed of social media and the amount of content we digest daily, more people are preferring to consume this information in a video format than text. Right now people are watching more videos than ever before thanks to their smartphones. If you don’t believe me just yet, let’s look at some stats by ImpactBND:

  • 75% of Americans watch online videos every day

  • Nearly 50% of all videos are watched on a mobile device

  • In 2019, Internet video traffic accounted for 80% of all consumer internet traffic

  • Videos up to 2 minutes long get the most engagement

Another study by Google shows us:

  • 60% of Americans consumers would rather video over live TV

  • Since 2015 consumers between the ages of 18-49 are spending 74% more time on Youtube

Ok, so now that we established how many people have started to like videos for content you might be wondering how these numbers affect businesses:

  • 24% of businesses publish a new video every week

  • 70% of consumers have shared a brand’s video

  • More than 50% of consumers want to watch videos from brands over any other type of content

  • Viewers retain 95% of the information when they watch it in a video compared to the 10% when reading it

  • 76% of marketing professionals plan to use video to increase their brand awareness

  • Social video generates 1200% more shares than text and images combined

  • Videos on Facebook Pages increases end user engagement by 33%

  • Marketers who use video grow revenue 49% faster than non-video users

Hopefully, by now you’re starting to think about how to incorporate video to your marketing strategy and create content in this format. So, let’s get into the how to make the best about video marketing:

Choose the platform: Where do you want to put your content? This can be important as certain videos do better on certain platforms. These are a few platforms you can consider:

  • Youtube

  • Twitter

  • Instagram

  • Facebook

  • IGTV

  • Tiktok

  • Snapchat

Your video will succeed or fail based on how well it does on each platform. So, three things to take into account when choosing are:

Where does your target audience is? You want to publish your content on the platforms your audience uses and spends most of the time.

Is there a lot of competition? If possible, try a platform that isn’t too competitive

How much effort are you willing to put? If you want to create polished videos, then you probably want to focus on Youtube over Instagram or Tik Tok that prefer raw and organic feeling videos.

Optimize your SEO: Although this will depend on the platform there are a few general tips that can increase the odds that people discover your video:

Keywords: Find keywords that people will use when using the search bar.

Optimize titles: Mention your most important keyword in your title. Remember that your title should sum up your entire video.

Use keywords in descriptions and tags: include your keywords both in the description and tag field so your content can be found easier.

Repost across other platforms: Although each platform has its own prefers, reposting your content across them can help you get more engagement.

Mobile viewing: Nearly 50% of videos are watched on a mobile device, meaning that square videos create a better experience as you don’t have to rotate your device. Also, 85% of Facebook videos are watched without sound, so add interesting visuals and captions!

There is a lot to learn about video marketing, as it’s an area that keeps developing and growing. Like everything in life it is a lot of trial and error to see what works best for you and your brand but I hope this gave you a better understanding of the importance of video for your business and brand.
